What is Easter Convention?

Spend Easter on the mountain at MTCC Easter Convention 2027! Join us at Mount Tamborine Convention Centre for a long weekend of Bible teaching, worship and fellowship in the fresh air of Tamborine Mountain. We’re delighted to welcome Stephen Gaukroger from the UK, founder of Clarion Trust International, former President of the Baptist Union, and much-loved Keswick convention speaker, whose warm, practical Bible teaching has encouraged believers in more than 25 countries. He’s joined by Dan Paterson, founder of Questioning Christianity, who engages life’s biggest questions with honesty and warmth, and Karl Faase, CEO of Olive Tree Media and host of Jesus the Game Changer and Faith Runs Deep. With dedicated kids and youth programs, there’s something for every generation, so bring the whole family, invite a friend, and come be renewed by the hope of the risen Jesus. Stay onsite for the full convention or drop in for a session or two.

Dr Stephen Gaukroger

Main Speaker

Over his 40 years in Christian leadership, Stephen has had opportunities to preach, teach and consult in more than 50 different countries.

His ministry began in a local church context, after gaining a degree in business and then a theological degree and pastoral diploma from Spurgeon’s College. For 14 years he oversaw remarkable church growth as Senior Pastor of Stopsley Baptist Church, Luton, before spending 12 years as Senior Minister of Gold Hill Baptist Church in Buckinghamshire – one of the largest Baptist churches in England.

During his years as a local church leader Stephen was also President of the Baptist Union of Great Britain (1994-1995), which enabled him to engage with leaders of other denominations as well as those in the political and business arenas. This role opened up a number of strategic opportunities that grew Stephen’s passion for preaching and teaching internationally and laid the groundwork for the ministry of Clarion.

Alongside this ministry, Stephen is also hugely involved in a wide variety of initiatives, both in the UK and internationally. He is a Vice-President of the Bible Society and holds positions on a number of Councils of Reference. He is the International Chairman of The Rooftop International Ministries.

A prolific author, Stephen has written more than 20 books, edited a variety of Bible study series and small group resources and authored numerous articles and blogs. His first book, It Makes Sense, an accessible, humorous and compelling intro to Christian faith, has been translated into several different languages and sold more than 100,000 copies. He has written and recorded 7 DVDs entitled 'God's Amazing Book' for Community Bible Study International. These have been translated into over 40 languages and distributed around the world! His latest video series is 8 talks called The Post-Covid Church.

Stephen is also a keen Man Utd supporter, loves tennis and is an avid reader of political biographies. He enjoys spending time with his family – his wife Janet, their three adult children and their five grandchildren.

Dan Paterson

Main Speaker

Dan Paterson is a Christian thinker and the founder of Questioning Christianity, a ministry that connects the Christian story to life’s deepest questions. He brings experience as a pastor, lecturer and public speaker, and studied Theology and Apologetics both in Australia and at Oxford. He served as an ordained Baptist pastor for seven years, then worked at Malyon College, where he led the Traverse Centre and lectured in apologetics. Dan is known for engaging honestly and warmly with the big questions people ask about faith. He speaks regularly to audiences across the belief spectrum about how the gospel connects to life’s biggest questions and about common objections to Christianity. His teaching tackles issues such as why believe in God, why believe the Bible, how a good God can allow bad things to happen, and how to have better conversations about God. He stresses compassion in engaging with sceptics, and the importance of community and Scripture for sustaining a vibrant faith. With Rian Roux, he co-authored the book Questioning Christianity, published by Moody, which draws on years of conversations with sceptics, seekers and new believers. Dan’s ministry takes him across Australia and beyond, including speaking at Katoomba Easter Convention in 2023, keynoting the Thinking Matters Confident Christianity conferences in New Zealand, and leading a Bible Society masterclass on how all of Scripture points to Jesus. He lives in Brisbane with his wife, Erin, and their favourite job is raising their three boys.

Karl Faase

Guest Speaker

Karl Faase is one of Australia’s best-known Christian communicators and the CEO of Olive Tree Media, a Sydney-based organisation that produces programs for Christian media and local churches around the world. Before leading Olive Tree full-time, Karl spent two decades as Senior Pastor of Gymea Baptist Church in Sydney’s southern suburbs, and that pastoral experience still shapes how he speaks and creates.

Through Olive Tree Media, Karl has created and hosted a string of documentary series broadcast internationally, including Towards Belief and Jesus the Game Changer, which explores how Jesus’ life and teaching changed the world and why that still matters. For Faith Runs Deep, he drove an iconic Holden Ute across Australia, uncovering stories of faith and transformation in the nation’s history. His most recent series, Encounter, is a 10-part collection of life-changing stories about people meeting Jesus, made for church and small-group use. Many Australians also know his voice from the Daily Nudge, short encouragement spots heard on radio and sent by email for more than a decade, and from his interview program, Insight with Karl Faase.

Karl speaks widely across Australia and beyond, with particular interests in leadership, ministry development, encouragement, and communicating with people who are exploring faith. He is passionate about reclaiming a gospel expressed in both word and deed, and he has served as board chair of Samaritan’s Purse and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association in Australia.
